Shirley LamTeacher / Accompanist / Performer
Originally from Hong Kong, pianist Shirley Lam holds degrees from the University of Iowa and Eastern Michigan University. She is currently a doctoral candidate at James Madison University, studying under Gabriel Dobner. Other notable teachers include Eric Ruple, Joel Schoenhals, Joel Hastings, Réne Lecuona and Ksenia Nosikova.
An active performer, Shirley was the principal keyboardist of the Millennium Youth Orchestra. She has been honored in numerous competitions including the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition in 2013 and the Dorothy T. McDonald Scholarship Competition in 2010, in which she was selected for first prize. A talented multi-instrumentalist, Shirley also enjoys playing organ, violin, oboe and handbells.
Shirley is also a passionate music educator. She has over ten years of teaching experience in both Hong Kong and the United States, including students of all ages and levels. Shirley is currently based in Northern Virginia.
When not teaching or practicing, Shirley enjoys outdoor activities such as rock climbing, kayaking, skiing and skydiving. She has a dream of becoming a wingsuit pilot someday
