On June 9 and 10, we enjoyed five different recital groups. 107 students from age 5 to 17 performed from memory!
On May 13, 2018, Washington Music Teachers Association ran a competition in which four of our students participated. This is a chance to hear the region’s most serious youth pianists. Congratulations to the students who performed: Vihaan Mathur, Shreya Singh, Noah Tennenbaum, and Alex Xu. In addition, Alex was selected for second place in his age group.
The following students participate in Bach Baroque Festival on April 7, 2018, and received the top rating of Superior. This event is run by Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association. All participating students performed two Baroque-era pieces from memory, listened to the performances of other students, and received written commentary from area teacher-pianists. In addition, students had the opportunity to test out their pieces on a harpsichord. This year, the event was held at The Falls Church Episcopal.
Congratulations to: Eliana Rougle, Noah Tennenbaum, Karthik Thyagarajan, and Philip Wang. Philip was also selected for the additional honor of a second audition.

Congratulations to Rishi Vanka who was awarded Super Bronze in the Golden Key Music Competition. Rishi was invited to play on the Honors Recital as well.

Congratulations to Noah Tennenbaum, who was selected for Honorable Mention in the recital hosted by Washington Music Teachers Association on February 18, 2018 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bethesda, MD. Noah performed two preludes by Nikolai Kapustin.
On December 10, 2017, we hosted well over 250 people over the course of the day and enjoyed 89 individual students’ performances in eight different short-short performance groups. Participating students ranged in age from 6 to 17 and performance pieces ranged from elementary versions of Jingle Bells to masterworks such as Chopin’s Fantasie-Impromptu and the third movement of Mozart’s Sonata in F Major K. 332. And, we ate 139 cupcakes. How wonderful to have our whole community together at the Studio, all on one day!
Join us Sunday, December 10, 2017 for our annual Open House and Mini-Recital. Doors open at 1PM and close at 6:30PM when the last performance group begins. We enjoy short short performance groups of youth students age 6 to 18, brief teacher performances, general merriment, and lots and lots of cupcakes. All are welcome and no RSVP is needed. Join us!

Congratulations to Kiernan Bartlett who received the top award of “Honors” at a recital sponsored by Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association on November 13, 2016. She performed the ragtime-fantasy “The Serpent’s Kiss” by the American composer William Bolcom.
James Hughes placed second at the Region level of this all-instrument competition. He previously placed first at the local and district levels. Way to go, James!
On March 11, 2014, James Hughes won first place at the Lion’s Club Solo Competition at the district level. He previously was recognized at the local club level and now moves on to the Regional level. Winners of the Regional-level competition advance to the final level, which is all-state. James performed Beethoven’s Sonata in D Major Op. 28, first movement.
Congratulations to James Hughes, who won first place in the Bailey’s Cross Roads Lions Club solo competition on February 11, 2014. James now has the opportunity to play his piece, the first movement of Beethoven’s “Pastorale” Sonata, Op. 28, at the region-level contest.
